Bai Tho Mountain
Located in Hon Gai ward, Halong City, where most of the central local life is happening, Bai Tho Mountain is a great attraction for people who want to a little bit of trekking without leaving the city.
Standing with an elevation of 106m from the ground level, this place was an important location especially during the ancient times as it served as a patrol post to signal the nearby towns and cities for emergencies and invasion alerts.
Going to the top of the mountain is an adventure itself. It only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to climb up to the peak before you can enjoy the amazing aerial views of Halong Bay without having to spend much money.
A little note for those who want to explore this mountain is that the site is almost a deserted place and is not taken care of, mountain goats graze freely so the way lead to the top is pretty dirty with feces. However, the beauty that you get once being on top deserves to get some dirt for it.
How to reach it?
You can catch a taxi from your hotel to go to Hon Gai. The way lead to the mountain is quite difficult to find and even many locals don’t know where it is. It is a small alley located at number 102 Le Thanh Tong road. When you are near the road, it is better to ask for direction from the locals. Go deep into the alley, you will see a locked gate, ask the person who lives in the house right next to the door because he/she is the gatekeeper. The mountain is near Long Tien pagoda, Halong I Market and the Vincom Mall, so you can also visit these places at once.
Entrance fee?
You will need to pay 10,000 VND/person (around 0.5 USD) for the gatekeeper, he/she will open the gate for you and let you freely discover the mountain.
