The island has been existed about hundred of million years ago and surrounded by the sea, isolated from the mainland so there is a primitive forest of varieties of flora and fauna, and endemic plants. Soi Sim is quite new with travelers and still being clean and beautiful attraction compared with other ones in Halong Bay because it has just been opened for about 10 years for overnight cruises and from 2015 for daily boats from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf.

The white sandy hugging the outline of the petite Soi Sim island and the shallow crystal blue water offer a good spot to swim, relax, or simply to lie while watching the sunset. Besides, you can also climb up to the top of the island through a small natural trail then savoring a spectacular panoramic view and taking some pictures. It’s noticeable that Sim trees often bloom in April and bear fruits in late June and July.  So if you visit this island in late April, you will have the chance to the hills dyed purple in flower-color.
