Sung Sot or Surprise Cave is one of the major tourist attractions when you go on a Halong Bay cruise tour. Despite that the cave is overcrowded with both local and foreign tourists flocking in daily, Surprise Cave is still worth some efforts and energy to pay a visit.

Located in Bo Hon Island, the Sung Sot Cave was first discovered by the French explorers in 1901. With an area of about 130,000 square feet, it’s no wonder there are hundreds to thousands of tourists that flock here every single day to explore the three main chambers that consist of different interesting rock formations.

Since there are a lot of people that visit this place and its entrance is quite high from the foot of the island, the local authorities have decided to put stone steps, colorful lights, and flattened smooth floorings for easier access for all kinds of tourists.

How to reach it?

You can choose between day boat and overnight cruise, similarly to the method to reach Titop Island. Surprise Cave is really famous and is considered as the symbolic attraction of Halong Bay so most of the day boats and cruises include this site into their itinerary.
