Halong I Market
Like any other city in Vietnam, a trip would not be complete without having a visit at the local central market. And of course, Halong City has its own specialties that you can only find in this place.
Halong I Central Market is located at the heart of Halong City, a few minutes away from the Long Tien Pagoda, the main pier, Vincom Mall and Bai Tho Mountain. This place attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world because of its friendly locals, fresh seafood, and lively atmosphere.
Built in 2003, Halong I Market is the biggest market in the whole Quang Ninh Province selling all kinds of goods from woodworks and pearls to fruits and flowers catering to all kinds of buyers. Most of which are made in China. It’s definitely the place where you can find your gifts for your friends and family back home.
What is highly recommended for you here is try out the speciality that you can't find nowhere else but in Halong City, the Squid Cake or so called Squid Ball (Chả Mực). The original fragrance of freshly fried Squid Cake will lead you to the stalls where you can find them without any hardship. And if you are an early bird, wake up at 5 or 6 a.m and visit the area right at the back face of the market, you can buy shockingly cheap seafood freshly caught from the sea and sold directly by the fishermen.
How to reach it?
This market can be found at the start of Le Thanh Tong street, Bach Dang, Hon Gai area, where the locals used to call the Loong Toong intersection. The yellow building is the main building of the market, its shops and stalls located both inside and outside the building. Don't mistaken this market with the green market right next to it, the green one is Halong II Market. Hon Gai area can be reach easily from your hotel by catching a taxi or a motorbike taxi.
Entrance fee?
No entrance fee, of course, but bring a fair amount of cash as you may find many interesting stuffs to purchase. Remember to bargain down the price, usually at half price.
