Hon Gai Church
Catholicism came to Quang Ninh long time ago and become popular fast. There are 27 churches in 8 districts and towns now. Hon Gai Church is a great address to visit to discover culture and religion of Halong people.
Hon Gai Church (Hong Gai Church) is located on Dao Hill, Halong City, where you can capture the panorama view of Halong City center and look over to Bai Tho Mountain. The church was built first in 1933 basing on Roman architecture, but was destroyed in 1972 during Vietnam War. In 1998, the reconstruction made the church look much more spacious and decent with 42 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and a 33 meters bell tower. It is the first in Halong Bay and biggest church in Quang Ninh until now.
How to reach it?
Hon Gai Church is in the center of Hon Gai, Halong City, near many landmarks like Vincom Mall, Quang Ninh Post Office, Bai Tho Mountain. Among them, Bai Tho Mountain is the furthest place to go to the church, around 1.5km. It is just simple to catch a taxi to let it take you there. If you want to walk, find the intersection of Ba Deo street and 25/4 street. Then, follow Ba Deo street to the intersection of Ba Deo street and Nha Tho street, here, turn right. Hon Gai Church is awaiting for you.
Entrance fee?
Just like any other churches in Vietnam, there is no entrance fee applied.
